SOL BOYS – Episode 2: The Man Beyond the Portal

Enrique couldn’t explain what he had witnessed.

He stared into the opening of the wooden box once more.

The tiny world inside had changed… again.

The winding dirt road was no longer empty. The trees had shifted. Mountains that hadn’t existed only moments before now stretched across the horizon beneath an amber sky.

Then he saw it.

A lone figure.

At first it appeared no taller than an inch, standing far down the road as if it belonged inside a miniature world. Enrique leaned closer, squinting to make out the stranger’s features.

The figure began to walk.

One slow step.

Then another.

With every step it grew larger.

It wasn’t climbing out of the box.

It wasn’t leaving its world.

The distance itself seemed to collapse.

The tiny silhouette became the size of a doll…

…then a child…

…then a grown man.

Within moments, the stranger stood nearly six feet tall, facing Enrique as though no barrier existed between them.

His long, dark coat drifted in a wind Enrique couldn’t feel. Across his chest glowed the faint outline of a shattered clock.

Around him, reality rippled like disturbed water.

The ticking began.

Tick…

Tick…

Tick…

Each beat echoed inside Enrique’s mind.

The stranger smiled.

“Ahhh…”

“You have found the box.”

His voice sounded ancient, as though it came from every second that had ever existed.

“The one thing I have searched for longer than you could ever imagine.

“His eyes locked onto Enrique’s.

“You must give it to me.

“Enrique couldn’t move.

The man’s smile widened.

“I will find you.”

“I will possess the box…”

“…soon enough.”

The ticking stopped.

Silence.

Enrique stumbled backward, nearly dropping the box onto the floor.

His heart pounded against his chest.

“No…”

He whispered to himself.

“That couldn’t have happened.”

“I must be losing my mind.”

He rubbed his eyes and took a long breath before cautiously looking back into the opening.

The road was gone.

The mountains had vanished.

Now the box revealed an entirely different place…

As though whatever lived inside it had already moved on.

To Be Continued…
